Meet the Team: 10 Questions with Joe Traub

In this installment of our "Meet the Team" series, we get to know our newest member, Joe Traub.

Joe is came from New Mexico to attend Weber State and fell in love with Ogden and Wildcat athletics.

Joe loves sports and bring a plethora of sports media experience to the Weber State Weekly team.

1. What are some hobbies you have, outside of sports?

I have taken on a rather unique and unorthodox way to enjoy life during this pandemic. Exercise is a crucial part of my life and I walk very, very, far and long every day. I am now at over 2,200 miles in the last six months, averaging around 12 a day.

2. Tell us something that few people know about you.

I had the opportunity to talk with Tommy Lasorda several times, including once in Ogden.

3. Why did you want to get involved with Weber State Weekly?

I was involved with Weber State Athletics in many different ways for a number of years, most notably in my time serving as Assistant Sports Editor for the Signpost. It was tough to go from being on top of the action for many different sports to simply watching games on TV once I graduated, so this is an absolute pleasure.

4. How did you become a Weber State fan?

Naturally I become attached to any teams/sports I am around, so it happened very quickly after I started attending Weber State. My first sporting event was actually a hockey game against Utah State in Sept. 2015. Aggies won but it was a fun all-around night.

5. Who is your all-time favorite Wildcat?

Tough one. Very tough. I’ll go with Zach Braxton, not only because of his terrific presence as a big man, but moreso due to the fact I was able to build a friendship with him off the court, and we are still in contact to this day.

6. Which is your favorite piece of Weber State apparel that you own?

On the eve of the Weber State vs. SEMO football playoff game in 2018, I was given a “Back-to-Back Big Sky Champions” t-shirt to commemorate the regular season titles in 2017 and 2018. I wore it to the game the next day, and the Wildcats smashed the Redhawks 48-23 on an electric afternoon at Stewart Stadium.

7. Which is the best Weber State game that you’ve ever attended?

Another tough one. I’ll go with an unexpected choice, a 31-18 Wildcats triumph over SUU in football at Cedar City on Nov. 10, 2018. Beyond watching Josh Davis make the T-Birds defense look completely silly, it was a great trip down south with the Destruction Zone and some wonderful friends.

8. What is your greatest athletic achievement?

Let’s not talk about that. There’s a reason we cover these teams and the players play! In all seriousness, back in 2011, I played YMCA basketball and connected on two game-winning shots in the final seconds during the season. Guess that counts for something, maybe.

9. Who are your favorite sports teams, other than Weber State?

Denver Broncos, Utah Jazz and I am a proud fan of the 2020 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

10. What can the audience expect you to bring to Weber State Weekly?

A positive, energetic attitude and some dry humor.
